As a professional content strategist and content manager, I have used many content management systems. Everything from custom built software (built in both .NET and php) to open source platforms like Drupal and WordPress.
I personally prefer open source platforms. They are backed by a community of users, people who are passionate enough to improve upon the platform and then share those improvements with others. AND they are free – at least to use, maybe not to build or host if you are starting from scratch. Open source platforms are great platforms for small businesses to experiment with, since they are easy to use, affordable and offer a plethora of beautiful themes.
This is what I used to build my new personal website: www.jworiginalart.com and it was fairly painless. If you have questions about WordPress as a CMS, let me know!
